DAVID JAMES-ANDERSON
Creative | Composer | Teacher

Hello!
David James-Anderson is a London-based composer, musical director, and teacher with a diverse portfolio spanning original musical theatre, cabarets, game and film scores, and youth arts education. Developed at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, David’s original works have premiered at prominent London fringe venues, including The Etcetera Theatre, Canal Café Theatre, and The Bedford, Balham.
As a multi-disciplinary artist, David combines his background in musical theatre performance with music composition, and teaches young performers. He is also the creator of a growing catalogue of contemporary youth musicals designed to empower the next generation of performers.
My Story
At heart, David James-Anderson is a Lincolnshire lad with music in his blood. Raised in a household filled with music, from his mum singing Motown and his dad playing soul and jazz, to his nanna in church choirs and his grandad on the organ, David grew up surrounded by every era and genre imaginable. His early love for storytelling blossomed through NYT Lincoln, school productions, and local am-dram, alongside performing as a singer and pianist with the youth jazz band Jazz Vehicle.
After earning an A* in A-Level Music with a core focus on composition, David moved to London to study Musical Theatre Performance at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. It was during his time there that his true focus shifted: he didn't just want to be on stage, he was fascinated by what music does to us; how a score in a film, game, or musical can completely manipulate emotion, tension, and narrative.
Stepping behind the scenes, David now works as a composer, lyricist, musical director, and teacher. His original shows and cabarets have played London venues like the Etcetera Theatre, Canal Café Theatre, The Bedford, but his work remains grounded in accessible, soul-led storytelling. Today, he writes music for musical theatre, game soundtracks, film scores, and creates shows for young performers and performing arts providers.
